THE ARTS BOARD FOR CARDBOARD

CARDBOARDERS is a blog about artists, engineers, architects, makers and tinkerers with a fetish for cardboard. We also organize crowd creation events where we use cardboard as the material. These projects are filled with a brimming spirit of innocence and fun. We aim to stimulate playfulness, inventiveness and other experimental and creative behavior.

Yes I love cardboard, and in thinking back on it I’ve had a long term relationship with creating things out of cardboard and boxes! My absolutely best childhood memory was when a neighbor moved in and left lots of huge boxes on the lawn for about a week while they went back to Texas to complete some business related to their relocation. My friends and I turned those boxes into everything from hideouts to trains, to slides and rocketships. It was a sad day when my mother informed me that the neighbors had returned and were surprised by the state of the boxes, and we were no longer allowed to play with them. For my master’s degree program one of the projects I did was build a tree out of cardboard which I covered with cardboard animal masks. My art classroom is always well stocked with cardboard of various weights and sizes (all recycled of course!)
